Planning and Production

Additional Role
My additional role was production leader. My role consisted of me organising meetings with the company and the production students, writing any ideas down that were suggested, send music and send information to the production students via email requiring any special things that we needed for the final performance. I also was in charge of collecting everyone initial ideas for lighting on their solos and duets and then discussed as a group what we wanted for the group pieces. Every Monday we would have a meeting with the production students where we would go through any things that we wanted for stage and at the beginning we explained our idea and how we changed it and the theme of the Cabaret so that the production team had knowledge on what theme we were going for. In these sessions I wrote down what was being discussed so that it was recorded and so that we could go back and use it for reference.
Communication
As a company we had many ways of communicating and discussing our ideas outside of college for example; Whats App group chats, where we would send recorded videos from rehearsals and discuss what we did if someone was absent. We often also used to snap chat as a way of keeping in touch, for example; to let one another know if we were running late or to discuss anything that we had planned in rehearsal in further detail. For rehearsals we discussed and created a timetable in which we would follow to allow us to focus on each piece and make sure we get as much out of every session as possible.
 Stage Plan
For our stage plan we wanted to follow the themes of a Cabaret so we decided to go along with a stage at the back of the main stage with stair at both end of the stage. We had to consider whether the size of the stage was acceptable as it was important mainly for the dancers as they would be needing the space for their dances. We also discussed whether we wanted microphones on the stage and decided that we would have a main microphone in the middle that works and two on each side for the setup of the stage. In regards to the audience, we wanted there to be around 8 tables surrounding the stage which would have candles, flowers and programmes etc.
Programme and Running order
As for the programme we decided that wanted to name our show Le Cabaret Magnifque. The name was suggested by our teacher and had come from a French origin. The name seemed to fit well with the theme and we like the way it sounded. We then went through all the pieces and discussed which order the pieces would go and if there should be a specific order or if we should just do it in no particular order. With this being said, we had to consider costume changes and who were performing together to ensure everyone had enough to get changed.

Running Order
All that Jazz                                             Anything You Can Do                                     And I Am Telling You
Look What Happened to Mabel         INTERVAL                                               Welcome to Wonderland
White Rabbit                                           You Can’t Stop the Beat                      Take me or Leave Me
Mr Cellophane                                       Fly Away                                          Hard to say Goodbye
Contrast                                                   Marco Spada

As for You Can’t Stop the Beat, the company went upstairs to the recording studio to record a backing track with Grant and Charlie. The pictures down below are the logic format in which Grant and Charlie edited and recorded us singing on.

Lighting for solos:
Look what happened to Mabel: spotlights, bright light
Fly Fly Away: spotlight, purple lighting
Lighting for duets:
Take me or leave me: sidelights
Anything you can do: sidelights and spotlight
Lighting for group pieces:
You can’t stop the beat: disco ball, colourful lights and haze machine
All that Jazz: dark red dull lighting
Hard to say Goodbye: side lights
For lighting I decided I wanted simple lighting for my solo as I wanted the focus to be on me. Similar for the duets as the pieces were strong enough and could stand on their own. As for the group pieces we decided that we wanted lighting that would set the mood of the piece as listed above. The speeches between each pieces helped to introduce and link all the pieces together.
